Bechamel Sauce

Bechamel sauce is one of the 5 mother sauces of French cuisine. Traditionally made from white roux and milk, it can used in various dishes such as macaroni cheese, fish pie, lasagna, etc.

The process to make Bechamel sauce is very short and easy. It can be made within 10 minutes in just two steps.

Now let’s get to the recipe.

 

Ingredients you need to make Bechamel sauce

65 gm flour (00)

65 gm butter

750 ml milk

A pinch of sea salt

A pinch of cracked black pepper

A pinch of ground nutmeg

 

Instructions 

Melt the butter in a pot with a thick bottom. Then, add the flour and when this forms a roux, add the milk, sea salt, nutmeg and cracked black pepper.

Whisk this continuously to break up any lumps. Once you have a smooth thickness to the sauce, turn off the heat and set aside.

Your Bechamel sauce is ready! You can use it in soups, mac and cheese, pie or lasagna.

TIPS

If you want a more silky texture to the sauce, you can replace butter with olive oil.
