As Christmas is getting closer and closer, we want to share a recipe very close to our heart – Dad’s Christmas lasagna.

Dad’s Christmas Lasagna is a dish that we have named after Italo’s father as he would make lasagna every Christmas that all his grandchildren loved. It was his way of expressing love for his family. Christmas, New Years, or birthdays – any occasion was his time to shine by cooking lovely dishes that the whole family loved.

Instructions to make Dad’s Christmas Lasagna

Turn your oven on at 200 º C.

In an ovenproof dish spread a thin even layer of bolognese sauce. Our dish we used today is 32 cm long x 25 cm wide x 7 cm deep. Lay the lasagna sheets over the bolognese sauce to fit the whole area. You may have to cut the lasagna sheets to fit the size and shape of your oven proof dish.

Then add a thin layer of bolognese sauce over the lasagna, then add a thin even layer of bechamel sauce, sprinkle some parmesan cheese, break up some Buffalo mozzarella cheese and shred across the layer evenly as well as some of the grated eggs and ham. Repeat each layer exactly the same till you have about 4-5 layers.

With each layer make sure everything is spread evenly across each layer so you have enough of each ingredient for each layer.

For the top layer spread some bolognese sauce and parmesan cheese. Cover the dish with foil and put into the oven for 20 minutes at 200ºC. After 25 minutes take the foil off and cook for a further 25 minutes until the lasagna has a golden colour.

If you like your Christmas lasagna crispy, cook it for a bit longer to your liking and enjoy!

Merry Christmas!!! We hope you enjoy the festive season with family, friends, and good food!
